Crest Factor+ is a new proprietary algorithm/technology that can clearly evaluate bearings. The Crest Factor was originally used for vibration analysis for the purpose of identifying bearing faults. This is defined as the peak value of the time domain vibration signal divided by the RMS. The original Crest Factor did not increase linearly as the bearing deteriorated, so there was an important limitation that it was very difficult to determine the severity of the mechanical problem. Indeed, the wave height rate may decrease with large RMS values and severe bearing failure.To overcome this limitation, Fluke uses a proprietary algorithm known as Crest Factor+ (CF+). CF+ values range from 1 to 16. The worse the bearing situation, the higher the CF+ value, which makes it easier for the user to determine the severity of the problem. In addition, Fluke included four-step severity scales: Good, Satisfied, Dissatisfied, or Unacceptable to provide a simpler identification of the problem.
